How Did You Get Your Start?

I got my start at UVA, where I studied engineering and did a studio art minor. In the mid 90s the web was just coming out, so it was a good intersection of those two interests. 

I built a couple of websites for local retailers on the Corner and then got an opportunity to build the software that powered the Corner meal plan. This was a time when I was barely passing my Computer Science classes, but I enjoyed hacking stuff together. 

After graduating from UVA, I got a job in Northern Virginia as a web developer. In less than two years that company got acquired which sparked the timing to start my company Viget in 1999 with my brother. 

The simplest description of Viget is that we're a digital agency that does both large-scale web redesign projects as well as big digital software products. We work with big brands like ESPN, and also a lot of startups that you've never heard of that go on to be acquired by some of those bigger organizations.
